SYNOPSIS
In this captivating Armenian drama "Backstage," Gabriel, a renowned choreographer, is set to direct the ballet "Metamorphosis" for the prestigious Yerevan ballet festival. However, As he prepares to unveil his groundbreaking ballet tensions escalate between Gabriel and the theater's prima, Norah. This clash ignites a fierce battle of ambition, and in a bold move, Gabriel dismisses Norah and invites the talented newcomer Jeanette, to take the lead role sparking a deep connection between them.
Undeterred, and refusing to be silenced, Norah orchestrates a coalition of theatre management, government officials, and her influential lover, the theatre's sponsor, to undermine Gabriel. They launch an investigation into his activities, uncovering mistakes that result in the show's closure.
Refusing to surrender and give up on his vision, Gabriel secures an abandoned factory and recommences preparations for the premiere. Yet, the relentless rehearsals and mounting pressure take a toll on Jeanette’s health, leading to a devastating revelation. Jeanette is diagnosed with breast cancer and discovers that she is pregnant. Marie, a compassionate oncologist, becomes Jeanette's doctor and insists that Jeanette involve the child's father in important decisions regarding preservation and chemotherapy.
As tensions rise, a fateful café meeting two weeks before the premiere unveils a complicated love triangle. Gabriel's wife, Marie, who is barren due to an abortion gone wrong when she was younger, implores him to stop rehearsals and prioritise Jeanette and the unborn child's well-being. Reluctantly, Gabriel agrees. However, Jeanette makes a heart-wrenching decision, sacrificing herself for the sake of the premiere.

Dans ce drame arménien captivant "Backstage", Gabriel, un chorégraphe de renom, doit diriger le ballet "Metamorphosis" pour le prestigieux festival de ballet d'Erevan. Cependant, alors qu'il se prépare à dévoiler son ballet révolutionnaire, les tensions s'intensifient entre Gabriel et la prima du théâtre, Norah. Alors que les tensions montent, une réunion de café fatidique deux semaines avant la première dévoile un triangle amoureux compliqué. Hovhannes Galstyan, an acclaimed director, writer, and producer, was born in Armenia. He honed his craft at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), where he graduated from the Cultural department of directing.
Driven by his passion for storytelling, Galstyan founded PARALLELS FILMPRODUCTION Company in 2005, where he serves as CEO. Under his leadership, the company has become a driving force in the film industry.
Galstyan's directorial debut, "Bonded Parallels" (Armenia, France, Norway) in 2009, garnered international acclaim. The film premiered at the prestigious Moscow International Film Festival and later received its European premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam's Bright Feature Program in 2010. This success solidified Galstyan's reputation as a visionary filmmaker with a distinct artistic vision.
In 2016, Galstyan took a significant step towards nurturing emerging talents by establishing "The Center of Industry, Education & Motion Arts" (CINEMA). This pioneering institution aims to provide aspiring directors, scriptwriters, and producers with invaluable industry insights and opportunities to expand their creative horizons.

Hovhannes Galstyan, réalisateur, scénariste et producteur acclamé, est né en Arménie. Il a perfectionné son métier à l'Université pédagogique d'État arménienne (ASPU), où il est diplômé du département de réalisation culturelle.

Lilit Hakobyan received her dance training at the State Ballet School in her hometown of Yerevan, Armenia, graduating with honors in 2006. After a first engagement in the ballet of the Yerevan State Opera, she danced at the Flensburg State Theater, Ballet Dortmund and Ballet Hof. Since 2011/12 she has been part of the ballet ensemble of the Hanover State Opera. Lilit Hakobyan danced a.o. in choreographies by Jörg Mannes, Nils Christe, Stephan Thoss, George Balanchine, Xin Peng Wang, William Forsythe, Mark McClain and Hans van Manen. She has featured as Paulette in Mario Schröder's Chaplin, the nurse in Mauro Bigonzetti's The Trial and Camille Claudel in Jörg Mannes's The Kiss. In the 2019/20 season she appeared in Prélude (Medhi Walerski), Thin Skin (Marco Goecke), Nijinski (Marco Goecke), Concertante (Hans van Manen) and Rise (Emrecan Tanis).

Laura Clever is a German producer, actress and writer, most known for her award winning short movie "THE COLLAPSE" and the thriller "HomeSick".
Her first performance on stage was in front of 700 people when she was 5 years old. In the following years she was on stage for musical and theater productions in Germany and the US. Thanks to a scholarship, she took acting, singing and dancing classes at Raleigh's Little Theater in North Carolina, USA.
In 2006, she was awarded with the "Bürgermedienpreis" in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Her movie and audio play production company Clever Production GmbH was founded in 2013.
Laura Clever's first associate produced movie "HomeSick" was premiered at the Berlinale in 2015 and was also nominated for the "Made in Germany" and "DFJW-Preis Dialogue en perspective" award.

Khoren Levonyan born September 16, 1983, is an Armenian presenter and actor. In 2017, Levonyan was awarded with the title of Honored Artist of Armenia. He is the presenter of AMPTV musical program titled Canticle Of Canticles. He is also the grandson of actor and director Khoren Abrahamyan.

As an actress, screenwriter, and honored artist of the Republic of Armenia, KARINE JANJUGHAZYAN has had an extensive career in both theater and film. Graduating from the Faculty of Acting at the State Institute of Fine Arts and Theater in 1983, she has worked in numerous theaters including Pos Experimental Theater, Goy Laboratory-Experimental Theater, Goris State Drama Theater, Kapan State Drama Theater, "Metro" Theater, and "Hamazgayin" State Theater. Her roles have spanned across theater, TV shows, TV series, and movies, and she has even performed in three solo performances. Additionally, she has worked as a screenwriter for several films, including "Arakel", "Promised Meeting", "I Will Go", and "The Song of a Shell". This accomplished artist has also served as a member of the jury for the “Kin” and “Sose” International Film Festivals. Her long list of film credits includes "Last Sunday", "The Artist", "Purchased Happiness", and "The Song of First Love 2". She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Theater’s Union of Armenia UTUA Diploma for Best Actress, the "Artavazd" Award for the Best Actress, and two gold medals awarded by the RA Ministry of Culture. She was also named an Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia in 2012.

Madlen Khachatryan is a talented costume designer and makeup artist who was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1965 and discovered her passion for the arts at a young age. She graduated from the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia in 1989 and became a member of the Artists' Union of Armenia in 2001. She then traveled to Paris in 2003 to enhance her skills and established the "Professional Makeup Workshop" in 2004, where she became the exclusive distributor of the respected French professional brand, "Make Up Atelier Paris." Throughout her career, Madlen has made significant contributions to various artistic projects, including serving as a costume designer for the show "Khatabalada" and the theater production "Metro." She also excelled as a makeup artist and costume designer for the film "Bonded Parallels" from 2005 to 2009. Madlen continues to inspire aspiring artists and captivate audiences worldwide and is currently working on the highly anticipated film "BACKSTAGE."

Karen Tsaturyan is a talented producer, composer, sound designer, writer, media producer, and audio-visual production supervisor. With over 20 years of experience, he has worked on numerous feature films, TV series, animations, and documentaries as a co-producer with countries such as Norway, USA, Germany, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, and Russia. His work have been screened at prestigious festivals like Rotterdam, Locarno, Warsaw, Dubai, Fribourg, and Houston, earning her recognition and awards such as The President's Prize in Arts in 2010.
In addition to his career achievements, Karen also shares her knowledge and experience as a lecturer and teacher at Television and Radio Academy, where he teaches acoustics, physics of sound, and theory of the reflex structure of sound.

Mihran Stepanyan is an Armenian director, producer, award winning cinematographer, colorist, award winning VFX Artist and supervisor with more than 18 years’ experience in film and media industry. He studied feature film directing in Armenia and then continued his career also in cinematography and digital arts. Mihran has worked on several projects including Half Moon Bay, If Only Everyone, Carpenter Expecting a Son, Korean Delicacy, Vishap, etc. Mihran has been a tutor of several courses for FXPHD since 2017. He is a member of Armenian Cinematographers Guild and an owner of One Man Studio Production.
Mihran Stepanyan est un réalisateur, producteur, directeur de la photographie primé, coloriste, artiste VFX primé et superviseur arménien avec plus de 18 ans d'expérience dans l'industrie du cinéma et des médias. Il a étudié la réalisation de longs métrages en Arménie, puis a poursuivi sa carrière également dans la cinématographie et les arts numériques. Marine Zakaryan

Marine Zakaryan is an Armenian filmmaker and screenwriter. She is the wife of director, screenwriter, and producer Hovhannes Galstyan. Her first experience in cinema was acting in Hovhannes Galstyan's course work "J'ose me souvenir" (1993). From 1999 to 2003, she worked at the "Private View" studio as a screenwriter and was in charge of external relations for the International Film Festival "Private View" for independent filmmakers. Marine also contributed as a co-author and host for the creation of the UNICEF, "Private View," and the television program "Notre bébé grandit" by the Government of RA. Since 2005, she has been working as a screenwriter and director at Parallels Film.
In her filmography, Marine has directed and written "The Pheasant Hunter" (2013) and acted in "J'ose penser" (1993). She also served as a host for "Notre bébé grandit. "Chronique des jours merveilleux" (2001) and co-wrote the screenplay for "Tangled Parallels" (2009) and "Bright Circle" (2012). Marine's talent and dedication have been recognized, and she received the Hayak National Film Awards "Best Debut" Award for the film "The Pheasant Hunter" in 2013.
